Is Pinlander free?
Yes. Pinlander is free to play every day, with no account and no download.
When does the new puzzle come out?
Every day at midnight in your own time zone. Puzzle #1 is on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Until then you can play a warm-up round.
How does scoring work?
We measure the straight-line (great-circle) distance in miles from your pin to the real place. A pin within a few miles scores 1,000 points, and the score drops smoothly the farther away you are. World Saturday uses a gentler scale, because the world is big.
Why are Alaska and Hawaii in little boxes?
So the whole country fits on one screen, like a classic atlas page. Scoring always uses their real locations. A pin in Seattle for Anchorage really is about 1,435 miles off.
Do I need an account? Where is my streak saved?
No account is needed. Your scores and streak are saved in your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us. If you clear your browser data, your streak resets.
Is it good for families and classrooms?
Yes. It’s quick, there’s no chat or sign-up, and the same puzzle makes a fun shared challenge for teens, adults and families. Try comparing scores at dinner.
Where does the map data come from?
City locations come from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). State outlines come from U.S. Census Bureau files, and world outlines from Natural Earth (both public domain). See About for details.
